Manistee, MI - Historical Home
Nuñez Outdoor Living Services
Manistee, MI First African American Home Owners!
Location: Manistee, MI.
This historic home has been in our client's family for generations. The Smiths originally bought the house in 1935 for $550. They came from Georgia during the Great Migration. They were the only Black family in Manistee MI for a very long time, and their home often was a place for other black families, and individuals to stay while segregation was still in effect. In 2025 the home was recognized as a historic site, and to celebrate our client asked us to landscape the property. With our help and planning were able to complete this project in time for the awards ceremony!
